Shannon Smith, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, and maintains a private practice in Portland, Oregon.
With over 15 years experience as therapist, and as a graduate of John F. Kennedy University specializing in counseling psychology, she is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among her areas of expertise are life transitions of early adulthood and midlife, eating disorders, anxiety reduction, sexual identity and spiritual growth.
Shannon has many years experience working in a multi-disciplinary team in a hospital out-patient environment helping people find coping skills and improve self image and esteem. In various settings she has delivered presentations on coping with pain, lead educational and psycho-educational groups, and relaxation meditations. Shannon has provided Spiritual Direction in private practice and retreat settings and has led groups on retreats nurturing women and spirit. Prior to moving back to Portland in 2004, she practiced in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior background in software and computer publishing industries lends a depth of understanding to clients' work place challenges and the work/life balance.
Shannon is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. Drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, existential, transpersonal and narrative therapy she integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.
